Artist Statement

I make photographs, cameras and objects, and I search for optical instruments, antiquated technology as well as electronic waste as both my subject matter and material. Through combining analog and digital methods in my process, I seek dialogues between function and futility, excess and scarcity, temptation and rejection.

With the evolution of technology, historical media transitions from necessity to obsolescence, often returning as novelty and collectables. Meanwhile, as the latest technology constantly updates itself, the speed of these transitions increases exponentially. In exchange for convenience, efficiency and often out of necessity, we become engaged in an endless cycle of spending and disposing. In an attempt to slow down, I began keeping every piece of electronics that stopped working, purchasing obsolete devices online, acquiring outdated tools from family and friends, and turning these technological ephemeras into temporarily preserved forms: a photograph, an encapsulation, a new gadget.
